The basketball regular season is winding down rapidly, and many of the players that fans with NBA All-Star tickets are familiar with are now preparing for the playoffs. The Heat’s star trio of Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh has long since secured their spot atop the conference, with a dominant 27-game winning streak leaving little doubt that they still reign supreme in the East. It’s not going to be easy for the rest of the conference to take them down, but strange things can happen in the postseason. Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks have been on a tear lately as well, as their current 13-game winning streak has given them a little breathing room for the second spot. Both Brooklyn and Boston briefly challenged New York for control of the Atlantic Division, but both the Nets and Celtics dropped off after the Knicks went on their run. Paul George and the Pacers managed to hold off Joakim Noah, Luol Deng and the Bulls in the East, in large part because Derrick Rose has still yet to take the court for Chicago.

In the Western Conference, the battle for the No. 1 seed looks like it is going to come down to the wire. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and the Spurs are currently tied with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the Thunder for first place in the West. Both teams would love to secure home court throughout the Western Conference playoffs, as San Antonio and Oklahoma City appear to be on a collision course in the conference finals.  Chris Paul and Blake Griffin have certainly left their mark on the Clippers this season, helping to lead the previously downtrodden franchise to their first Pacific Division title in team history. By virtue of their division title, they hold the No. 4 spot over the Zach Randolph and the Grizzlies, even though Memphis currently has a better overall record. The Rockets’ trade for James Harden has paid off immensely, as the first-time All-Star has lead Houston to its first playoff appearance since the 2008-2009 season. After years of dysfunction, the Warriors are back in the playoffs for only the second time since 1994, in large part because David Lee managed to stay healthy for the entire season. The most interesting playoff race out West may be for the eighth and final spot, as the star-studded Lakers look to sneak into the postseason past the Utah Jazz. If Kobe, Dwight, Nash and Pau don’t make the playoffs, the Lakers would be the single biggest disappointment in the history of the NBA. With the playoffs just days away, the best basketball players in the world will have an even bigger stage to display their incredible talents.
