Fans with LSU football tickets enjoyed a perfect September, as Les Miles and the Bayou Bengals closed out the month undefeated with a 38-22 victory over Towson in Week Five. The Tigers face their toughest opponent of the year so far when they travel to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators in a battle of undefeated Top 10 teams. The Gators have surged out to an impressive 4-0 record through September, and have their eyes set on capturing the SEC East crown.

The Tigers will look to disrupt Florida QB Jeff Driskel, who has given the Gators much more stability at the position than most people expected going into the year. While he has not thrown for a ton of yardage, he has managed the offense well, and has kept the mistakes that plagued the team a year ago to a minimum. Driskel has also gotten a lot of help from running back Mike Gillislee, who is having a career year in his final season for UF. The 5-11, 209 pound senior is fifth in the SEC in rushing after Week Five, and has been a consistent source of production for the otherwise offensively-challenged Florida squad. LSU certainly has the defensive players to shut the Gators down. There are few defensive lines with as much talent as the Tigers, and it will be up to the front four to both shut down the run and pressure Driskel into mistakes. While DEs Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo have not been as productive in 2012 as they were a season ago, they remain two of the best pass rushers in the conference, and Florida’s offensive line has had trouble protecting Driskel at times. Offensively, the Tigers will again rely heavily on the ground game, which has continued to crank out yardage at an impressive clip despite the loss of Alfred Blue. Sophomore Kenny Hilliard has proven to be one of the most consistent backs in the SEC, and his bruising size will be especially important against the fast but undersized Gators’ defense. With Blue out again, Spencer Ware and Michael Ford will step into bigger roles as the Tigers hope to wear down Florida. A victory over the Gators would go a long way in convincing skeptics that LSU should be taken seriously, and the Tigers have more than enough talent to get the job done in enemy territory.
